The Jean Size Index is a useful tool created help guys find out what they're size is in any given pair of girl jeans. As we surely all well know, girl jeans come in many varying sizes and lengths, and they're almost always labeled with size numbers rather than actual measurements, often sizes range from "0" to 13.
With the Jean Size Index, we're going to clear that confusion up by creating and index of information on jean sizes to help you find out what waist size is what. This will make it easy for guys to look at what sizes are right for them when deciding on a particular jean, rather than just taking a shot in the dark.
The Index needs your help!
This index forum will be based on user submitted info. It is important that your information be as accurate as possible.
How do you submit info?
It's simple. Say you own a pair of jeans from American Eagle, and they fit your waist snug and the inseam fits your length just right. Click the "new topic" icon in the corner and make a thread! Titled it "American Eagle" and fill us in on the marked size (3, 5, 7, etc) and the actual jean measurements including waist, inseam, and rise. *Please note any specific inseam sizing that the jeans may have been marked as (short, medium, long, etc).*
Once we know for example, that a size 5 in American Eagle is a waist size ___ and inseam of ____, we can add that information to a master list of sizing info for easy referral.

The correct conversion sizing for men to wear jeans of the fair sex is a daunting task. First one has to understand the sizing criteria: Juniors - Misses - Women's - and then Short - Average - Tall - Petites and half sizes. Juniors are sized with odd numbers starting with 1 and going as high as 19 (JCPenney). Misses are sized with even numbers starting with 2 through 18 exception for Express sizing starts at 00. Women's sizes generally start at 14 or 16 and go up and beyond 26. Short is the inseam length of pants and is generally 27-29 inches. Average inseam is 29 - 31. and Tall runs to 34 and 36 with some clothing manufacturers. Petites is sizing for short small women. Half sizes (a term rarely used today) are for women between even sizing. A general conversion factor to remember is add 20 to the number of the Misses size i.e. size 2 is 22 inches; size 12 is a 32 and size 14 is a 34 - these are in inches. Note this is a 'General Conversion Factor" and does not apply to all clothing manufacturers. Another 'Factor' to consider is the "VANITY SIZING FACTOR"! The clothing folks want their customers to feel good about themselves. "Oh I wear a size 10 (really a 14) and don't I look good"? So now you have a ball park estimate of the sizing. Just about everybody who has a website; Macy's; Target; Wal*Mart; etc. has a size chart to review.
Caution if buying clothing from an Ebay seller make sure you get the sizing down right "Get Measurements"!
So here is what you need to do to get jeans (pants) that fit you right. Get a cloth tape measure; you can use a metal carpenters one but the accuracy will be questionable at times. Metal does not bend around the body like a cloth tape will.
Key measurements are the WAIST; HIPS; INSEAM & the RISE. The Waist you already know about that it can be anywhere from the navel (belly button) to the hip line. The Hips are the widest point south of the waist generally measured at the greatest projection of the glutes maximus (butt). The Inseam is the distance from the pants crotch bottom seam to the end of the pants leg. And the Rise is the distance from that same pant crotch bottom seam to the top of the front waist band. With 'Low-Riders' the rise is not much perhaps 7-8 inches and the fly zipper almost non-existant.
Ok that just get you started - next up the trial and error. Get measurements of clothing that fits you well. Make note of these and get crackin to the Mall; Thrift store or your favorite place to shop. Grab a couple or three pairs of jeans that look to be in your size range and head to the fitting room. Note I mentioned a couple or THREE - bracket your size with a pair on either side of what appears to fit. If the store permits and you are shopping for more than one type or brand of jeans take those also. While you are in the fitting room you really do not want to keep going back and forth to get something that fits. Most fitting rooms have mirrors - use them. If you have a mate or that someone special (SO) have that someone eyeball how your jeans fit you. You might be at this for quite awhile the first time but the second time you should be able to get it right one.
So you have completed Jean Shopping 101 ! Now go out and trip the light fantastic and strut your new found jeans.

Most of my jeans are size 8 misses and size 9 juniors. Some I buy in long (about 34) and some in medium (about 32). Generally speaking, the boot cut jeans I get in long, and skinnies in medium. In a size 8, most womens size charts equate that size to a 29 waist. The truth is the waist is actually larger than that, especially with low rise jeans, 7 1/2 inch to 8 1/2 inch rise. I wear a 32 in mens jeans, but a 29 in womens. Low rise jeans fit around the hips, not up on the waist. The juniors 9's are a bit tighter around the hips and butt, but still fit nicely with a little spandex in the material. I have very good luck with Levis, as they always seems to fit right and look good.

Looking for skinny jeans your inseam is going to be shorter almost as your wearing crop jeans. Skinny jeans are worn cigarette style, pencil leg have leg hem width of five to six inches across which needs to just come at your ankles not bunching up to long.
Most jeans in skinny are shorter then bootcut or straight leg in the inseam. Expect 28 - 30 inches as regular fit as the inseam for skinny jeans. This is for them to fit correctly while wearing sneakers around your ankles not bunching up as being to long...
Some maybe confused as to figure out super skinny vs skinny jeans. Super skinny are known to be tight at the calf while skinny can be also the fact but wider along the pant hem. This depends on how they describe the style cut pant leg. Some call cigarette, other pencil while others leggings.
There are really three sizes any women should fit into. Small, medium, Large. If any women decides wear XL or XS they shouldn't be wearing jeans at all, just my opinion.
Going with OLD NAVY size chart in inches Small: 26-27 waist, 36-37 hips Medium: 28-29 waist, 39-40 hips, they should stop sizing there. Large: 30.5-32.5 waist, 41.5-43.5 hips.
Now if you go by waistline your not going to fit find your hip size and then you can either wear a belt to snug up the waistline if to loose.
Rule of thumb is sometimes they give out the thigh measurements and waist across. My experience in general depending on the materials used making the denim stretch more you can size down and still fit in the jeans comfortable. I go buy waist measured across laying flat 15 inches usually the normal to become slightly loose but the hips usually fit in a size anywhere from a 27-29 waist depending on the designer. This translates to a 36 - 39 inch hips. Thighs measurement is anywhere to 9 - 10.5 inches across which gives a snug or tight fit.
If you buy good pair of jeans you will see some stretch out more you wear them in the hips mostly and tend to loosen up while holding there shape.

I wear GV Amanda's in a 12T. They fit perfectly on my 6-3 180# body. In guys jeans I wear have a 36 waist and 32 inseam. The GV have a 33" inseam. I just wish their pockets were a bit deeper. but I generally carry a man bag for cell and bulging wallet.

Yes I have found the GV to fit perfect without any alterations. The GV fit is for the mature misses but still yet compared to men's jeans they fit with the just the right amount of snugness with no baggy sagging. The pockets are yes somewhat smaller than male pockets - but the main thing about wearing jeans for gals is the gals don't use the pockets so why worry about it. The man bag or clutch or even fanny bum bag works - plenty of room for a small ID folder; plastic or folding money if you want to dispense with the bag deal. Try to keep it clean and simple.
Regarding the long inseam on the GV when shopping and the store has more than 1 of what you fit into take a small tape measure and check out to see if perchance one has a shorter hem maybe by even a 1/2 inch can make the difference. Remember gals wear their jeans with heels so consider factoring that into play. You don't have to wear heels but maybe low quarter boots maybe the solution to the perfect fit.

my size runs between 0 and 1.of course it varies depending on the brand. You are fortunate to be at the lower end of Juniors Misses sizing - a lot of stuff out there that really fits nicely ! Juniors are odd numbers starting at 1 up to 13-15 which then becomes Plus Juniors end at 17 or 19 rarely into the 20's. The Misses used to start at 2 in even numbers up to 14 and Plus Misses up to 16 or 18 and again rarely into the 20's. With Misses vanity sizing Misses start at 00 or 0 - Express is one that adopted this a while back and it replaced the sizing starting with 2 - The size 12 replaced the 14. But regardless when dealing with the numeric sizing always take a tape measure or demand (not ask) for the actual measurement of the garment - tape measures do not lie as opposed to the vanity sizing curve. AND I do subscribe to the Carpenters measurement to measure twice and cut once - take a pair of pants and if you are not careful about shortening the hem the result is a mixed measurement become Capri pants - screw that up and you arrive at Bermuda's - by now you should have it down pat to correct this Bermuda cut and shorts become the name of the game - last chance to do it right before the shorts become nothing more than a covering of the undergear Ah Oh La La I see London I see France and you guessed it - so now you are at a point where you have to wear jeggings leggings tights* to cover the diminishing material. So in this lesson just wear Jegs Legs Tights* from the start and stop doing radical surgery ! Notice the tights is "Starred" * ! Tights in the UK are relatively close to USA Pantyhose ! Tights in the USA are more heavy weight athletic compression gear ! Viva la Difference and know the sizing difference !

Another thing I forgot to mention is that my size is in juniors, which I think is the perfect fit for very slim males like me. Juniors has a 'flat' boyish fit compared to some of the women's jeans made with some curves. Recently I have purchased jeans from Clothingunder10.com, and the sizing in their jeans is mostly juniors, they really fit true to size and stretch. I also purchased women's black pull on straight leg pants, sizing just being S, M, or L, in my case small. They fit very well to the waist and still look way better than any men's pants I've worn in the past, but it is not a super skinny fit. The back pockets look like then the typical slant pocket found in men's pants, but positioned in a way to enhance the back side. That's one mayor different between women's and men's jeans (even men's super skinny), is that the back pockets are typically set in a way to make the behind look better, some styles with some 'lifting' details and designs, bling, etc.
